Drombeg Stone Circle

Drombeg Stone Circle

Ireland is seeped in ancient history and there are hundreds of stone structures to confirm this throughout the land. Drombeg Stone Circle is one of these. It is a circle of 17 standing stones which on excavation showed that there had been an urn burial in the centre. It has been dated to between 153BC and 127AD. The Drombeg Stone Circle, or as it is locally known as the Druid's Altar, is located on the edge of a rocky terrace overlooking the sea about a half mile away in West Cork
What does a stone circle symbolize?
Many of them are highly symbolic. These are places where the faithful assemble to observe common beliefs. Circles represent the cyclical nature of life and the seasons, of marriage (the exchanging of rings), of birth, and death.
