“Irelands Beauty Close Up Scenery & History Awaits You”

Cork City Gaol Historic Building

It has often been said that it is impossible to visit Ireland without falling in love with its beauty. From rolling green landscapes to fierce and wild coasts to ancient structures there is something for everyone in Ireland. The Cliffs of Moher, one of the possible trips for our retreat, is considered to be one of the most stunning views on the island. No matter the weather the cliffs are an impressive sight. On a clear day the sunset can be watched over the cliffs, providing a romantic view of this landmark, but even an a stormy day, the dramatic views are unmatched as the sound of waves crashing against the cliffs enhances the landscape.

Natural wonders are not the only beauty Ireland has to offer. Historical sites and structures are protected and preserved in Ireland to show their varied and impressive history. Cork City Gaol, a magnificent castle-like building which once housed 19th century prisoners. The Countess Markievicz, who would later become Ireland’s first female cabinet member, served a jail sentence in Cork Goal during her fight for Irish independence, and was quoted as saying Cork Goal was “the most comfortable jail I have been in yet”. Fancy some gaol time?

From the Rock of Cashel to Skellig Michael, to the Aran Islands, to the Burren, the Irish landscape is as varied as any country despite its small size. The Irish architecture both ancient and modern is a treat to view and even driving through a small Irish village is an engaging experience, with some towns dating all the way back to the thirteenth century.
